WhY SEE A Registered Dental Hygienist?
You can now choose your dental hygienist and dentist separately. This gives you the option to have your oral hygiene care performed by who you want instead of who your dentist employs.
At McLean Teeth Dental Hygiene Care we strive to provide a high quality of preventative dental care. We offer a family-friendly environment that is relaxing, welcoming and affordable, resulting in an all-around enjoyable experience. We also work outside of normal dental office hours making it more convenient for you to visit at a time that is right for you.
Independent Dental Hygienists follow a fee guide recommended by the Ontario Dental Hygienists Association. These fees are generally 20% to 40% less than the Ontario Dental Association fee guide, which outlines the dentists' suggested fees. Click here to view the Ontario Dental Association Fee Guide.

What happens if I need treatment THAT you cannot provide?
We will refer you to your family dentist. With your permission, we send a treatment report to your dentist addressing results or any concerns noted during your assessments. All of our records are digital and are easily duplicated and forwarded. We can also request your most recent radiographs from your dentist to be stored in your digital chart within our clinic records.
Can you take dental x-rays?
Currently an independent dental hygienist can not take x-rays without the prescription from a dentist. If you require dental x-rays a referral can be made to a dentist for an examination and required x-rays the dentist prescribes, and they will forward a copy of your x rays to our office.
Are dental hygienists allowed to work without a dentist?
Yes! In 2007, the laws in Ontario changed allowing registered dental hygienists who meet certain criteria to provide their services in their own settings other than a dental office, having a choice to open their own office or travel to their clients' place of residence. This was done to make preventative dental care more accessible to people in Ontario. This means more affordable preventative dental care is now offered to everyone.
do i still need to see a dentist? What happens if i don't have a dentist?
We strongly recommend that you still see a dentist yearly for a check up and x-rays if needed. We will make the proper referral if we see any areas of concern. If any concerns are observed we will discuss them with you and can offer a referral to a dentist within our trusted network.
WHAT should i expect at my first dental hygiene appointment?
On your first visit a medical and dental history will be completed and reviewed by the hygienist to determine if dental hygiene care can be safely provided. A comprehensive examination of your head, neck, and oral cavity will be done to determine the condition of your oral health and to develop a treatment plan with you, specific to your needs.
